FAQ

Is ridesharing safe?

Statistics show that ridesharing is safe, however it is important to keep personal safety in mind. It is a good idea to meet at a public location and meet your fellow commuters before starting your rideshare.

Why should I rideshare?

For many reasons: if you share a ride, that is one less car on the road to cause traffic congestion, it can cut fuel consumption, and reduce air pollution. You can save money as well and ease your mind by being less stressed by not having to drive daily

Do people take turns driving while ridesharing?

That is optional, in some rideshares everyone alternates, but there are also instances that have people who strictly ride. This is something you will want to discuss before starting the carpool.

If I don’t have a vehicle, can I still rideshare?

Yes, it will just need to be communicated before joining the carpool/vanpool.

What if I have carpooled or vanpooled to work, but need to leave work early for an unexpected emergency?

If you are signed up for Commuter Connections or ConnectingVA, not to worry! People who are signed up for Commuter Connections can take advantage of their Guaranteed Ride Home program, and those signed up for ConnectingVA can take advantage of Ride Home Rewards. Sign up today at CommuterConnections.org or ConnectingVA.org.

Which program should I sign up for — Commuter Connections or ConnectingVA?

It depends on where you work! Both programs offer free ride-matching to help you find carpools, vanpools, and transit, plus emergency ride home benefits and commuter rewards. View our map to see which program you may be eligible for.
